10/12/14 day 5: Dresden, DE

Up at 7:30 today, which by all accounts is too early but the early worm gets the warm Brötchen, fresh out of the oven at breakfast. Score. Enjoyed a pretty standard breakfast spread with all the German fixings, with the exception of Tobasco. A couple squirts of American flavor sauce of the gods takes the soft boiled egg and cheese sandwich to the next level.

Walked around the hotel and snapped these shots. The valley was full of fog and the light was really soft.

We made the drive to Dresden in about an hour and a half. Rocked out to Kind of Blue in honor of the club we are playing tonight; Blue Note.

We arrived in Dresden, parked the car, and walked around the block. I snagged some wifi from a cafe to connect w the club owner and locate our apartment for the next two nights and grab the key. We brought our gear in and were pleasantly surprised; probably the nicest 'band' apartment I've ever seen.
And then this happened...clean plate club, y'all.
And this... Señor Day and Herr Vallone.

After lunch, I went down for a power nap. Woke up around 6 and walked downstairs to the club around 7 where we met Mirko, the owner of Blue Note, who is a super cool dude who has spent a ton of time traveling around the US and plays in an alt country band here in town.

The show went really well. Had a really good crowd (pretty much standing room only), it sounded great, and the vibe was tangible. We added a couple new songs to the set; Peter Day's tune The Beauty that Surrounds and Radioheads High and Dry. Musical highlight for me was the jam in between Dance with Me and Black Water jam. I figured, Blue Note after all is a jazz club, so things got a little angular.

Afterwards we met a ton of locals and sat around and laughed, and talked about music, language and accents. Such a great bunch of folks! Johannes the bartender, for example, is a bee keeper by day. Peter and I purchased some of his honey. So much fun.
