4/17/13 day 16: Nürnberg, Germany

Grabbed breakfast at 9:30 this morning. The spread was pretty good... Standard German fare... Brötchen, sliced meats and cheeses, yogurt, musli, coffee, soft boiled eggs.

We met back at the lobby at 11:00 and walked to the Documentation Zentrum which is a really thorough and well done World War II museum housed in the unfinished 'Kongress' building. I didn't realize how much history took place in this city and how many NSPD events occurred here. It was a somber yet informative morning as we walked through the building and grounds where many of these events occurred.

On the walk back to the hotel at about 3 PM, we stopped for a 'Döner' and a beer. It's perfect afternoon nap food. We had decided to meet back at the lobby at 4:45 to head into the 'alt stadt' for the evening. We took the U Bahn from Frankenstrasse to the Hauptbahnhof and walked north through the winding, cobblestone streets. I couldn't get over how picturesque it was. I'd never seen a medieval German city like this before. We wound our way through the pedestrian areas towards the castle. As the sun set, we peered over the castle walls and took in the great view. We could even see the Kongress building from earlier in the day.

We picked a little Italian restaurant on the river to rest and rejuvenate. We then made our way to the Rote Bar (which was recommended by the sound guy last night) and had a cocktail and toasted our good fortune.

This is definitely a place I want to check out again.

Gute Nacht.
